Swimmer Turns Buoy in Cairo Lane Under Dawn Shower
Cold silver dawn light spills over a narrow village lane near Cairo where choppy open water floods the paved street. An open-water swimmer in a red cap cuts through the surge, sighting a yellow turn buoy that floats mid-air above the wet asphalt. A massive tree grows horizontally out of a crumbling mud-brick wall, its green leaves dripping with rain while fully supported by the impossible structure. The diagonal flow of the water and the swimmer's forward lean create tension against the stillness of the morning. Raindrops fall in sheets, catching the silver light and blurring the edge of the tree's roots into the splash zone. at the edge is a single leaf from the horizontal tree touching the water's surface right at the swimmer's outstretched hand.
