Rower Feathering Blade at Dawn with Shoebox Buildings
by Luis Kaur
Summer dust rises in golden shafts from the muddy Kansas City village lane as a rower executes a feathering motion at the end of the recovery phase. The perspective sits low near the ground, looking up at the athlete whose oar blade twists horizontally against the brightening sky. Along the edges of the frame, miniature structures the size of shoeboxes line the lane, their tiny windows reflecting the first rays of sunrise. The water on the blade glistens with moisture from the monsoon season, while the rower's muscles tense under the morning light. Shadows stretch long across the wet earth, and the texture of the dust particles hangs suspended in the air around the small, detailed buildings. One droplet slides down the curved edge of the oar blade.
