Swimmer Butterfly Stroke Monsoon Lane
by Tony Hodge
Bright midday sun reflects intensely off a flooded village lane near Ipoh, turning the submerged road into a makeshift pool. A swimmer executes a butterfly stroke, arms slicing forward through the water while droplets sheet off the skin and spray into the air. The monsoon season has filled the lane, creating a shallow, rippling surface that mirrors the grey sky. Water rests on the swimmer's shoulders and arms, catching the light in sharp, white highlights. In the background, blurred greenery and concrete walls line the flooded path, showing the unusual setting. The water ripples outward from the swimmer's movement, distorting the reflection of the surrounding foliage. A final droplet hangs suspended on the swimmer's fingertips before falling back into the murky lane.
