Surreal Canyon River Mirror Reflection
by Cheryl Sharp
Dappled sunlight falls through scattered leaves, illuminating the jagged sandstone walls of a Las Vegas canyon. The riverbed floor transforms into a perfectly still, mirror-still open water surface, reflecting the entire rocky landscape and the sky above with crystalline clarity. Wind whips through the canyon, bending the thin branches of desert shrubs and showing motion against the static, impossible floor. The subject stands silhouetted against the bright afternoon light, showing the sharp contrast between the dry, textured rock and the liquid glass below. Fine dust particles hang suspended in the air, caught in the wind, while the reflection captures every detail of the wind-swept foliage and the steep, eroded canyon sides without distortion.
