Cold silver light spills across a rugged mountain path near Dadu, illuminating a lone surfer crouched beside their board. The surfer presses a block of hard wax onto the deck, their hands moving with competitive urgency. Monsoon season leaves the surrounding earth dark and damp, while a perfectly clear sky above holds no clouds, only a sharp, pale gradient of dawn. The board rests on the uneven gravel, its bright color against the muted grays of the stone and the surfer's dark, wet wetsuit.
