Stripped Locomotive in Dead Sea Twilight Shadow in along a switchback approach in the Dead Sea

Stripped Locomotive in Dead Sea Twilight Shadow

by Antonio Farrell

Deep indigo twilight washes over a switchback approach where a locomotive engine sits stripped for overhaul. The massive metal frame rests in deep shadow, outlined only by a faint rim of residual light against the heavy overcast sky. Late summer heat has not lifted the gloom, leaving surfaces matte and cool. Exposed pistons and internal gears face the dimming horizon, their complex geometry visible only as dark silhouettes against the fading sky. The ground beneath is dusty earth, marked by tire tracks leading up the incline. A heavy steel beam hangs from a crane overhead, casting a sharp, geometric shadow across the engine's chassis. at the edge is the rust-colored edge of a bolt head catching the last sliver of light.
