Stone Packhorse Bridge in Bosnian Temple Precinct

by Damian Peterson

Hard coastal glare illuminates a weather-beaten stone packhorse bridge spanning a narrow moorland stream within a lantern-lined temple precinct in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The structure stands in perfect symmetrical composition, its rough-hewn granite blocks showing deep fissures and mossy patches from the turn of seasons. Low-hanging clouds drift above, casting sharp shadows that define the bridge's sturdy arch against the bright sky. Rustic iron lanterns hang in rows along the stone balustrades, their dark metal surfaces reflecting the intense light. Water flows steadily beneath the arch, creating a thin white ribbon of movement against the dark, wet stones. at the edge reveals a single crack in the central keystone filled with a tuft of resilient wild grass.
