Steam Rising From Alley Grates at Lombok Tram Stop
by Katrina Carr
Vapor curls upward from iron grates set into the wet pavement of a narrow alleyway in Lombok. The area sits beneath a tram stop structure, where heavy overcast clouds press low against the deepest night sky. Faint ground glow from distant street lamps illuminates the steam, making it appear as a thick, white ribbon against the dark surroundings. A foreground element, likely a metal railing or shadowed post, frames the view, adding depth to the composition. The season turn is visible in the damp, cool sheen on the concrete and the muted tones of the alley walls. Steam rises steadily, drifting toward the dim light, while the wet surfaces reflect the sparse illumination. The iron grates show signs of rust and wear, at the base of the scene in a lived-in urban reality. The steam eventually dissipates into the heavy air, leaving the dark alley unchanged.
