Spiraling Ramp Snow and Sun Under Glass in inside a glass-roofed arcade near San Diego

Spiraling Ramp Snow and Sun Under Glass

by Vernon Small

Pale concrete curves upward in a massive spiral, viewed from the ground looking through a high glass roof. The left half of the frame holds drifting white snowflakes that settle on the gray surface, while the right half basks in flat noon sunlight reflecting off nearby water. Humid air hangs heavy, blurring the edge where winter meets summer. The glass panels above catch the bright glare, casting sharp geometric shadows that cut across the ramp. Concrete texture appears rough and damp where snow accumulates, against the dry, sun-bleached surface on the right. The spiral pulls attention upward, ending at a rim where the impossible weather divides the structure.
