Spider Spinnerets Silk Early Autumn Near Xining

by Fernando Morin

Glistening strands of silk emerge from the tiny, segmented spinnerets of a spider positioned low to the damp earth. The late afternoon sun reflects off a nearby water surface, casting a cool, shimmering highlight across the spider's dark, chitinous exoskeleton. Fine droplets of moisture rest on the surrounding grass blades, evidence of recent rain and humid air. The silk threads stretch taut, catching the light like spun glass against the muted browns and greens of the early autumn ground. Tiny water beads refract the sky above, while the spider's legs grip the wet soil with firm, precise tension. One droplet hangs from a grass tip at the very edge of the frame.
