Silver Weather Balloon Dawn Cotswolds Observatory in beside an observatory dome in the Cotswolds

Silver Weather Balloon Dawn Cotswolds Observatory

by Dylan Mahoney

Low-hanging mist rests on the rolling green slopes of the Cotswolds as the first light of early summer breaks through the clouds. A large silver weather balloon envelope dominates the left third of the frame, its crinkled metallic surface catching the soft, diffused dawn glow. The balloon rises beside a stone observatory dome, its white masonry against the deep green grass. Wisps of fog drift across the ground, partially obscuring the base of the launch rig. The sky above transitions from a pale gray near the horizon to a brighter, cool white. The texture of the balloon's fabric appears taut yet flexible, rippling slightly in the morning breeze against the stillness of the ancient stone structure.
