Silhouetted Hoodoo Spire Against Autumn Sunset

by Ricardo Kline

A dark, jagged hoodoo spire rises sharply against a sky bleeding orange and violet. The rock face stands in complete silhouette, its rough texture defined only by the thin rim of light catching the upper edges. Fine sea spray hangs in the air, catching the fading sun to create a hazy, shimmering veil that softens the horizon. Dry autumn grasses sway gently at the base of the formation, their golden stalks stark against the darkening ground. The light fades rapidly, turning the lower layers of the rock into a solid black mass. One droplet of moisture clings to a blade of grass in the immediate foreground, refracting the last glow of the day.
