Silhouette Divide Marker Snow Shore Twilight

by Benjamin Burks

Low twilight light turns a weathered stone marker into a stark black shape against a pale, overcast sky. Snow rests on the uneven ground where the ground meets a calm, wet shoreline, creating a seamless mirror. The water holds the dark outline of the stone and the heavy gray clouds above. Patches of melting snow reveal dark, damp earth and scattered stones along the edge. A low layer of mist hovers just above the surface, softening the horizon line where the sky meets the sea. The stillness of the water doubles the silhouette, while wind-swept snow drifts curve gently around the base of the marker. A thin line of foam marks the highest tide along the wet sand.
