Streetlamp Pier Sapporo Snow Noon in on a pier railing in Sapporo

Streetlamp Pier Sapporo Snow Noon

by Jean Mendoza

Snowflakes drift downward across the frame, suspended against the dull grey of a pier railing in Sapporo. A lone streetlamp stands upright, its metal surface slick with melting water from the early spring thaw. Overhead, a north-facing window casts flat, diffuse sidelight that eliminates deep shadows but reveals the sheen on the wet rail. Puddles form in the crevices of the metal, reflecting the pale sky above. The scene remains static under the harsh glare of noon, with droplets clinging to the lamp's edges. A small, distorted highlight glimmers on the curved top of the railing where the snow has just landed.
