Shot Putter Roaring Release Blue Hour Bamako
by Iris Taylor
Indigo ambient light washes over a concrete circle beside a canal in Bamako during the dry season. A shot putter stands mid-roar, mouth wide open, muscles taut against the fading sky. Water droplets from the nearby canal hang suspended in the air, catching the last light like scattered diamonds. The athlete's skin gleams with sweat under the cool evening glow. Behind them, the dark water of the canal reflects the deepening blue of the twilight sky. Low-angle framing emphasizes the power in the raised arms and the intensity of the expression. The rough texture of the concrete circle contrasts with the smooth, glistening surface of the wet athlete's skin. One droplet of water rests on the edge of the athlete's raised forearm, frozen in the moment of release.
