Flat noon sunlight flattens the shadows across the concrete throwing circle in El Mahalla El Kubra. The athlete's back arches violently, mouth open in a roar that distorts the jawline against the pale sky. Early autumn leaves skitter across the gray ground, caught in sudden gusts that blur their motion. The subject occupies the right third of the view, muscles taut under skin stretched by exertion. Dust rises in small clouds near the toes, illuminated by the harsh overhead glare.
