Shell-lined Flood Barrier Under Dawn Sky in beneath transmission towers in Comoros

Shell-lined Flood Barrier Under Dawn Sky

by Joseph Bennett

Cold silver dawn light spills across a concrete flood barrier seam embedded with scattered seashells. The structure stretches beneath massive transmission towers, their steel legs disappearing into a low, cool fog. To the left, the sky glows with the pale blue of morning, while the right side abruptly shifts to a deep, star-filled night. The transition is sharp and absolute, a solid line dividing two times. Shells rest in the damp crevices, their white and pink surfaces catching the silver light. Mist rests on the ground, softening the base of the towers where the metal meets the earth. One shell lies isolated near the seam's edge, catching the first hint of morning glow against the dark night sky.
