Sandboarder Descending Dune in Evening Mist
by Ryan Hale
Cool blue twilight washes over a village lane near Walvis Bay where thick monsoon mist rests on the air. A sandboarder rides down a steep dune crest, viewed from behind. Their dark jacket contrasts with the pale, wet sand that glimmers under the fading light. The board cuts a sharp line into the soft surface, kicking up a small spray of grains that hang momentarily in the humid air. Street lamps cast faint pools of yellow light that struggle against the pervasive gray fog. The rider leans forward with knees bent, their body angled to maintain speed and control. A wet patch on the sand reflects the dim sky, marking the path just taken. The distant village houses fade into the mist, their outlines soft and indistinct against the darkening horizon.
