Sacred Spring Pool Reflecting Stone Walls and Ferns
by Colin Ayers
Bright open daylight floods a meadow near Hisar, illuminating a small sacred spring pool nestled among early winter ferns. The water surface ripples vigorously under a strong wind, distorting the reflection of weathered ancient stone walls that rise steeply from the water's edge. Vibrant green fronds cluster tightly against the damp, grey masonry, their tips bending sharply in the gusts. Patches of dry, pale grass surround the pool, creating a stark contrast with the deep greens and the cool blue-grey of the stone. The pool occupies the lower center, while expansive negative space of the meadow stretches upward, showing the isolation of the water. Sharp shadows from the wind-bent ferns fall across the wet stones, highlighting the rough texture of the masonry. One green frond tip touches the churning water surface, creating a tiny, fleeting splash.
