Rusted Waterwheel in Mauritius Paper Mill Ruin in along a vine-choked corridor in Mauritius

Rusted Waterwheel in Mauritius Paper Mill Ruin

by Stella Sexton

Vines choke the stone corridor of an abandoned paper mill, their green tendrils wrapping around crumbling brickwork before sunrise. A massive iron waterwheel stands seized by deep orange rust, its spokes frozen in a moment of stillness despite the wind whipping through the broken archways. Low sunlight strikes the horizon haze, casting long, soft shadows that stretch across the damp earth and highlight the texture of decay. The cool season air is visible in the mist clinging to the ground, while the leading lines of the ruined walls draw toward the skeletal wheel. Rust flakes crumble onto the mossy floor where the water once turned the machinery, and a final flake of orange iron rests against a patch of vibrant green ivy.
