Soft overcast light floods the surface of a dark, mountain lake near Adelaide, turning the water into a sheet of matte black. A sleek racing shell slices forward, driven by a rower whose back muscles tense beneath a fitted athletic shirt. The hull splits the water, leaving two distinct silver lines that ripple outward against the stillness. Heavy monsoon clouds hang low, diffusing the early morning gray into a uniform glow that highlights the wet texture of the composite hull. Ripples spread from the oarlocks, catching the pale sky. The final silver streaks fade into the dark water behind the boat.
