Flat noon light washes the weathered stone of an abandoned ceremonial court in Hungary, revealing patches of wet moss and dried lichen on the gray masonry. A thick synthetic rope hangs vertically from an unseen upper opening, disappearing into the inky blackness of a deep cistern below. The stone surface glistens slightly where recent rain has left a thin sheen, against the dry, dusty cracks filling the mortar joints. The rope’s fibers show signs of fraying where they rub against the rough, chipped edge of the stone rim. Above, the sky is a stark, cloudless blue, while the cistern mouth swallows the light, creating a void that anchors the composition against the pale, sun-bleached walls.
