Rim Lit Reindeer Lichen on Floodplain Rocks
by Lana Reid
Early morning fog blankets the Elazığ floodplain, softening the edges of dark, wet stones scattered across the ground. A thick carpet of reindeer lichen rests on the uneven surfaces, displaying pale grey-green and ochre textures that contrast sharply with the damp, charcoal-colored rocks. Deep shadows dominate the foreground, while a thin rim of light traces the upper contours of the lichen patches, highlighting their crusty, leafy structure against the mist. The terrain slopes gently away, creating layers of depth as the fog thickens in the distance, obscuring the horizon. No movement disturbs the stillness; the water on the stone surfaces reflects the dim, diffused sky. The final edge of the nearest rock shows a sharp line where the dry lichen meets the wet, dark mineral surface.
