Under the harsh, bleaching light of a Luxor winter noon, a narrow alleyway opens onto a sun-drenched courtyard where daily life unfolds against weathered limestone. A local man sits on a low wooden stool, his hands moving with practiced rhythm as he repairs a worn leather basketball, the ball’s faded orange surface against the cool blue and white porcelain tiles lining the nearby sink. Nearby, a coil of rough hemp rope rests on the dusty ground, its fibers catching the sharp shadows cast by the high walls.
