A narrow, sun-bleached alley in Luxor opens into a cramped workshop where the overcast midday light diffuses evenly across a cluttered workbench. A local artisan sits on a low wooden stool, his hands busy adjusting a brass doorknob he is refurbishing, its surface catching the soft, flat illumination. Beside him, a faded blue tablecloth covers a stack of unused textile samples, their embroidered patterns muted by the lack of direct sun. On the wall behind, a pegboard holds an array of worn tools, while a small, cracked wash basin sits in the corner, stained with years of use.
