Autumn Leaves Drift Around Fire Hydrant

Copper-toned light washes over a red fire hydrant standing beneath the dark, steel ribs of an elevated train line in Grand-Bassam. Dry autumn leaves, shades of brown and ochre, drift across the dusty pavement and cluster against the hydrant's base. The horizon light wraps the scene, casting long, sharp shadows that stretch from the metal beams across the ground. The clear day air holds no moisture, leaving the surfaces dry and matte. Leading lines formed by the train tracks and the curb guide the eye directly to the industrial object. One dry leaf rests against the silver cap, catching the fading glow of the horizon.
