Orchid Mantis on White Flower Sri Lanka

Orange light from the low sun falls across a white flower where an orchid mantis rests. The insect stands at the edge of a dense reed bed, its body angled away to show the curve of its abdomen. Rain has left water droplets on the surrounding green stalks, glistening in the warm glow. The ground below appears wet and dark, with a soft haze rising from the damp soil between the reeds. Behind the mantis, the reeds rise in a wall of muted greens and browns, their tips slightly blurred by distance. A drop of water slides from a reed tip, catching the golden light before falling into the soil.
