Caterpillar on Leaf in Misty Dawn Light

Mist hangs low over a broad green leaf near Maceio, softening the edges of the coastal vegetation. A small caterpillar rests on the underside, its segmented body pressed tight against the wet surface. Cool season air keeps the leaf edges crisp and dark green. Gusts from the breeze cause the surrounding foliage to shiver and skitter, creating a blur of motion around the still insect. Diffused dawn light falls through the haze, casting no sharp shadows, only a gentle, even glow on the dew-covered veins. The caterpillar remains frozen in alert tension as the leaves tremble around it. one drop of condensation rests on the tip of a nearby leaf, trembling in sync with the wind.
