Chilean Cliff Columnar Jointing Winter Clouds in in Chile

Chilean Cliff Columnar Jointing Winter Clouds

by Fred Henry

Soft overcast light washes the massive basalt columns of a Chilean cliff face in uniform gray tones. The hexagonal rock pillars rise vertically, their surfaces rough and weathered by wind and rain. Low-hanging clouds drift close to the summit, blending with the pale sky and obscuring the distant horizon. Sparse, dry grasses rest on the ledges between the stone formations, hinting at the early winter season. The scale is immense, with the rock wall stretching far beyond the frame's edges. A small patch of green moss rests in a crevice near the base, offering a subtle contrast to the dominant charcoal and slate colors of the stone.
