Pigeons at First Light in Kathmandu

by Leah Rowe

A cluster of pigeons huddles on the wet slate roof of a traditional Newari house in Kathmandu during the early morning light. Their iridescent neck feathers catch the diffused glow as raindrops cling to their dark grey plumage. Below them, the intricate carved wooden windows of the ancient building remain dark and silent against the grey sky. One droplet falls from the eave, blurring the sharp edge of the tiled roofline in the foreground.
