Pigeons at First Light in in Singapore

Pigeons at First Light

by Sabrina Cardenas

A cluster of pigeons huddles beneath the shelter of a corrugated zinc roof, their grey feathers dampened by the recent tropical downpour in Singapore. Water droplets rest on the rough texture of the concrete pillar beside them, reflecting the soft, diffused light of the early morning. The birds shift slightly on the wet ground, their red feet gripping the slick surface near a discarded plastic wrapper. One bird tilts its head, revealing the irides purple sheen on its neck against the muted grey surroundings.
