Pigeons in Portland at Midday Light

A damp Portland sidewalk glistens under flat midday light, where a cluster of gray pigeons scatters near the entrance of a brick building with peeling paint. An iron deadbolt stands out on the heavy wooden door, its matte finish against the glossy enamel surfaces of a nearby diner’s awning. A worn doormat lies slightly askew, damp from the drizzle, while a basket tray sits empty on a wrought-iron chair outside a cafe. Pigeons peck at crumbs near the base of the door, their feathers ruffled by the damp air. A quiet, lived-in moment, with the wet pavement reflecting the muted colors of the surrounding architecture and the soft, diffused light of the overcast sky.
