Peeling Paint Reveals Wood Grain on Moss

North-window sidelight illuminates a fragment of flaking white paint resting on a bed of saturated green moss. The paint surface has curled back in thin, brittle sheets, exposing the rough, vertical grain of the underlying timber. Water droplets rest on the moss fibers, catching the cool, diffuse daylight that falls through the window. The contrast between the smooth, decaying paint and the textured, damp vegetation creates a tactile study of decay. Shadows stretch softly along the wall behind the subject, defining the depth of the peeling layers. One curl of paint hangs precariously over a glistening moss stalk.
