Crisp high-altitude sunlight cuts through the humid air inside a Khartoum prayer hall, illuminating rows of paper lanterns resting on a shallow pool of monsoon water. The wet floor reflects the warm orange and pale yellow hues of the paper shells, creating a layered depth that draws toward the back of the room.
