Paper Lanterns Floating on Shrine Water

Crisp midmorning sunlight floods a Tirunelveli shrine courtyard where rows of colorful paper lanterns rest on the still surface of a rectangular water basin. The cool season air leaves the water glassy, reflecting the vibrant orange, yellow, and red hues of the lanterns in perfect symmetry. Behind the basin, stone pillars and additional hanging lanterns line the shrine walls, their textures sharp against the bright sky. A few ripples disturb the water near the edges where the paper meets the liquid. Each lantern casts a soft, diffused shadow on the water, at the base of the floating objects in the physical space of the temple grounds.
