Sahara Dune Crest Dawn Light Jiangxi Valley
by Alan Howe
Cold silver dawn light washes over a sharp knife-edge dune crest, its fine sand grains glowing against the pale sky. The ridge cuts a stark diagonal line across a wide valley floor, where late summer vegetation meets the desert floor. A heavy layer of frost coats every visible surface, turning the dry sand dune and the surrounding grasses into a brittle, white landscape. The frost rests on the dune's wind-sculpted ridges and settles heavily on the valley plants, creating a textural contrast between the smooth, frozen sand and the crystalline ice. Shadows stretch long and blue across the valley floor, showing the stillness of the early morning. The sharp edge of the dune drops abruptly into the frost-covered expanse below. One frost crystal hangs from a dry grass stem at the very bottom right corner, refracting the pale light.
