Nicaraguan Pepper Greenhouse Monsoon Light in inside a village olive press in Nicaragua

Nicaraguan Pepper Greenhouse Monsoon Light

by Walter Tate

Broad daylight floods the concrete aisle of a rural Nicaraguan olive press repurposed for agriculture, illuminating rows of green pepper plants. Condensation beads along the curved glass panels overhead, blurring the sharp edges of the leaves below. Bright yellow sticky cards hang in neat vertical lines between the vines, their vivid color against the deep greens of the foliage. The monsoon season brings a heavy, humid quality to the air, visible as moisture clinging to the structural metal and glass surfaces. The view from directly above reveals the orderly grid of the crop, stretching into the distance under the translucent roof. Small droplets of water rest on the lower leaves, reflecting the white light filtering through the rain-swept panes. One yellow card hangs slightly lower than its neighbors, catching the light.
