Packed earth floors of an open-air gathering space near Santa Fe hold a Navajo sand painting arranged in intricate geometric patterns of red, yellow, white, and black powders. String lights hang overhead, casting a warm, golden glow that illuminates the fine grains while dramatic, dark clouds gather in the twilight sky above. Early spring air settles over the dry ground where bare branches of distant trees touch the horizon. Foreground bokeh blurs soft edges of desert shrubs, drawing focus to the sacred design. The powders shift slightly in the low light, creating subtle gradients across the circular motifs. One shadow from a nearby post stretches across the yellow sand.
