Navajo Kinaalda Ceremony at Dusk Near Santa Fe

Sodium-vapor light washes the adobe walls of a traditional hogan in warm amber tones as twilight deepens. Dramatic, heavy clouds loom overhead, casting shifting shadows across the dry grass and dusty ground. Beside the structure, ceremonial items rest on woven blankets, their reds and yellows glowing against the darkening earth. The foreground dissolves into soft, out-of-focus vegetation, drawing attention to the weathered wood beams and the sturdy presence of the dwelling. City lights begin to flicker in the distant valley, against the deep blue of the approaching night. One clay pot sits near the entrance, its surface reflecting the fading orange glow of the sky.
