Mud Hut Display Inside Freetown Train Terminal
by Bennett Paul
Soft, overcast morning light falls through the high windows of the restored Freetown train terminal, illuminating a circular mud hut constructed from reddish-brown earth. The structure stands isolated within the vast, tiled hall, its thick walls textured with visible finger marks and dried mud cracks. A steep, thatched roof made of dried grasses curves upward, casting a soft shadow on the damp concrete floor below. The humid air of the monsoon season hangs heavy, settling as a slight sheen on the polished station tiles surrounding the hut. Wooden support beams of the terminal frame the rustic dwelling on the left and right, creating a stark contrast between the modern industrial architecture and the traditional building. A small, open doorway reveals a dark interior, while the edge of the thatch rests precisely on a concrete paver, at the base of the scene in physical reality.
