Silhouetted Mud Hut in Restored Train Terminal

by Max Swain

Warm city lights glow through the high arched windows of a restored train terminal in Jalingo, casting deep shadows across the polished concrete floor. A circular mud hut with a rough, textured thatched roof stands in the foreground, rendered as a stark silhouette against the humid evening air. Rain-slicked surfaces reflect the distant urban glow, while the heavy, layered straw of the roof catches the faintest rim of light. The structure rests on a simple earthen base, against the industrial steel beams and glass panes of the terminal behind it. Droplets rest on the lower edges of the thatch, and the dark outline of the hut frames the fading daylight outside. A final wet spot on the floor mirrors the hut's curved profile.
