Glistening green moss coats the narrow stone steps of a rice terrace, slick with recent rain under the pale gray light of first dawn. The path winds upward through harvested fields where stubble stands short and brown in the humid cool air. Mist hangs low, softening the edges of distant green hills and blurring the horizon line. Wooden stakes mark the boundaries of empty plots, their wood darkened by moisture. The stone surface reflects the diffuse sky, creating a mirror-like sheen on the wet steps. One wooden bucket sits abandoned near the base of the stairs, its handle rusted and dripping condensation onto the damp earth below.
