Moonlit Mining Ruin Sintra Ore Carts

by Mallory Payne

Cold moonlight washes over a cluster of rusted iron ore carts half-buried in grey tailings. The metal surfaces gleam wetly, reflecting the pale silver glow that falls through a natural frame of toppled stone columns. Young nettles push up through the crushed rock in early spring, their leaves glistening with residual rain. The ground is a chaotic mix of dark gravel and damp earth, sloping gently toward the shadowed depths of the ruin. Moisture hangs heavy in the air, visible as a faint haze clinging to the low-hanging branches of nearby trees. The rust on the cart wheels has flaked away to reveal pitted, orange-brown iron beneath the dark grime. One shard of broken ceramic lies near the front wheel, its blue glaze catching the moonlight.
