Soft, diffused light falls through thick white mist clinging to the rocky slopes near Chamonix. A dark opening of a lava tube cave sits slightly left of center, framed by lush green ferns that cascade over the damp stone rim. The ferns glisten with recent rain, their fronds pressing against the rough, grey basalt. The ground in the foreground is a mix of wet gravel and scattered pine needles, absorbing the muted afternoon glow. Mist swirls around the cave mouth, obscuring the depth within while highlighting the texture of the wet moss. A faint shadow falls across the lower right corner where a flat rock rests against the earth.
