Medieval Walled City Aerial View Ashgabat
by Piper Horn
Pale dust settles over the braided river channels winding through the landscape near Ashgabat. High above, the medieval walled city appears as a dense cluster of beige and ochre structures enclosed by thick defensive ramparts. Thin, translucent fog drifts low across the waterways, softening the sharp edges where the river splits into multiple streams. The early afternoon sun casts short, distinct shadows that define the height of the towers and the depth of the moat. Layers of dry reeds and sandy banks stretch outward from the walls, creating a textured border between the built environment and the wild water. The geometric precision of the stone walls contrasts with the organic, meandering paths of the flowing channels below. A final line of shadow falls across the inner courtyard, marking the edge of the afternoon light.
