Mackerel Sky Dawn Over Stormy Scottish Isles

Deep winter shadows swallow the foreground of the storm-bright plain, leaving the ground indistinguishable from the darkening earth. Above, a vast ceiling of altocumulus clouds forms a precise mackerel pattern, their edges glowing with the pale, cool light of first dawn. Sea spray hangs in the air as a fine, suspended mist, catching the rim light to create a shimmering haze that softens the horizon. The clouds appear dense and textured, stacked in rhythmic rows that stretch across the entire width of the view. Silhouetted against the brightening sky, the landscape remains a flat, dark mass, showing the vertical depth of the cloud layer. A faint, wet sheen on the distant ground reflects the high, pale tones of the morning sky.
