Rows of heavy industrial looms stretch through a machine shop near Charlotte, their metal frames coated in a thick layer of floating textile lint. Just after sunrise, the midsummer light falls through a light drizzle outside, casting a soft, diffused glow across the dusty air. The atmosphere is heavy with charged material grit that clings to every surface, from the worn hinges on the doorway threshold to the awning edge shading the entrance. The concrete floor reflects the muted tones of the early morning, while the machinery stands silent and ready. A brass hinge catches the weak light, against the gray dust.
