Forsaken Tide Mill in Chongqing Packing Hall

Rusted iron waterwheel half-submerged in stagnant water occupies the center of a stainless steel packing hall near Chongqing. Sodium-vapor lamps cast long, yellow shadows across the wet concrete floor while bright welding flares ignite the metallic haze hanging low. Early winter cold is visible in the condensation clinging to the conveyor belts. The symmetrical arrangement of industrial machinery creates a corridor of severity. Corrosion streaks the waterwheel blades, against the polished surfaces of the surrounding conveyors. One drip of water falls from a pipe onto the wheel's submerged edge, breaking the stillness of the frozen morning.
