Rust-colored steel looms stand in a rigid row along the jagged edge of a granite quarry ledge near Ulsan. Early afternoon broad skylight floods the industrial row, illuminating thick clouds of white lint that hang suspended in the air. Low-hanging gray clouds press against the horizon, softening the harsh contrast of the machinery. The heavy metal frames rest on rough concrete foundations, their surfaces marked by years of dust and grease. Fine textile fibers coat the gears and pulleys, creating a hazy veil that drifts slowly across the foreground. One shadow from a overhead beam falls across the rusted floor plates, highlighting the grit embedded in the metal crevices.
