Lightning Trails Over Desert Mesa in Heat Haze in through low marine fog near Phoenix

Lightning Trails Over Desert Mesa in Heat Haze

by Kirk Hickman

Soft, diffused light falls through a low marine fog layer hovering just above the cracked earth of a desert mesa. Jagged streaks of white and pale blue lightning bolt across the sky, their long exposure trails cutting through the haze like fractured glass. The foreground reveals dry, dusty soil with sparse, brittle shrubs standing motionless against the movement above. Distant mesas rise in muted layers of brown and gray, fading into the atmospheric moisture. Heat waves shimmer visibly off the ground, blurring the horizon line where the sky meets the land. at the edge is a faint, electric glow reflecting off a wet patch of pavement in the immediate lower corner.
